Mind map / topic map platforms, interfaces, and uses [Metamaps]

Bringing this discussion over from the email list, regarding Metamaps, here:

http://list.allmende.io/pipermail/maps/2015-January/subject.html#300

The thread begins to consider various tools and uses for semantic graph visualization / manipulation in the context of Transformap project.

I see value in this both in terms of use within the collaborative work space (design, strategy, ontology construction, etc.), and towards the possibility of some similar features eventually being integrated into an end user tool for working with map taxonomies and metadata.

Metamaps.cc was cited as an especially relevant tool / project, I am closely involved and familiar with it, and I know that there are mutual interests and values. I’m open to exploring possibilities here, testing, gathering feedback and seeing what emerges.

Key question: what could topic maps do for Transformap community at this stage, and what are some good examples or implementations to look at and work with?

It can be quite useful to document the structure of the Transformap project.

Such a visual overview could be useful indeed…

At the given point in time it is not feasible for the taxonomy.

Yes, the project ecosystem is a good “big picture” view to work with on a map.

I do think it would be interesting to look at the Transformap taxonomy on metamaps, and try out some different exercises and exploration with it. Perhaps looking at how it “maps” over to other taxonomies and terminology as well. I will see about translating from the latest version on ethercalc. Started here (which can be easily copied and edited / extended in other maps by anyone with an account): http://metamaps.cc/maps/1165

You can get some idea of semantic design activities on Metamaps if you search (top left corner) for “ontology” and explore the topics and maps that come up.
