Search interface for a database of skills?

(Robert Orzanna) #1

Dear all,

Just an idea that was going on in my head.

Recently I visited a woofing/farming project where the owner has a vast amount of knowledge and expertise on the topic of beekeeping.

Let’s now assume that another person in that region would want to start a beekeeping project.

Wouldn’t it be great for that other person to have a searchable interface for a database of skills through which he is able to find this other person in his region?

Regional proximity has the following advantages over online documentation:

  • Possibility to visit and experience the project
  • Shared language and cultural background

Can TransforMap play a role here by adding skills to the mapped projects and make them searchable through a simple interface (a la Google)?

Warmly,

~Robert

Hey Robert,

indeed we are looking increasingly at the social graph of the TransforMap initiatives. I am sure you know @alabaeye’s work in

Back in 2012 after conceiving Public Space Invaders we never managed to get into a second round for including knowledge transfer into our analysis. Yet, I also remember from that time working with Gardening initiatives there were plans to create such a knowledge map, especially to find these kind of offers.

Also OuiShare Labs Camp 2014 produced nice slides about Open Distributed Data Profiles grasping such an idea visually.

TransforMap can help in negotiating the terms and data structures for representing this information and in finding other initiatives wanting the same.

Dear @almereyda,

Thanks for providing me with this overview!

I will wrap my head around this, figuring out what to do with that information.

Thankfully,

Hi Amaury,

Warmly,

~Robert

Hi Amaury,

I think it would already be a great sufficient start if there was a short
description somewhere in English about the project.

Warmly,
